What are missed calls costing you?

Every missed call is a customer deciding whether to leave a voicemail or try someone else. Plenty try someone else. Put in your numbers to see what that could add up to.

Be honest. Check your phone's recent calls for last week.

Not every caller is a job. 30-50% is a common guess for service calls.

The math: missed calls per week × % that would book × average job value, times 52 weeks (and divided by 12 for the monthly figure). It's an estimate, not an invoice. It doesn't count repeat business or referrals those customers would have sent you, so the real number is often higher.

How to get your real numbers

Guessing is fine for a first pass. If you want the honest version, take ten minutes:

  • Missed calls: scroll your phone's recent calls (or your business line's call log) for last week and count the red ones that weren't spam.
  • Booking rate: of the calls you did answer last week, how many turned into a booked job or a quote? That's your rate. Missed callers book at least as often, because they called when they had the problem.
  • Average job value: last month's revenue divided by the number of jobs. Use the average, not the big one you're proud of.

Why the real number is usually higher

The calculator only counts the first job. It doesn't count the customer who would have come back every year, the referral they would have sent you, or the review they would have left. For recurring businesses like salons, cleaners and HVAC maintenance, one missed call can be years of revenue.

How to catch more of those calls

You can't answer every call. You're on a roof, under a sink, or with a client. A missed-call text-back sends every caller a text within seconds so they can book, ask a question or flag an emergency, and the conversation stays with you instead of your competitor.
